Attac: Austritt Österreichs aus Energiecharta-Vertrag überfällig
Heute hat Großbritannien seinen Ausstieg aus dem Energiecharta-Vertrag bekanntgegeben und folgt damit den Vorbild zahlreicher andere EU-Staaten, darunter beispielsweise auch Deutschland und Frankreich. Österreich ist derzeit noch nicht aus dem Vertrag ausgestiegen, obwohl sich Klimaschutzministerin Leonore Gewessler für einen Ausstieg einsetzt.
Warum der Energiecharta-Vertrag der Energiewende schadet
Der Energiecharta-Vertrag wurde zwischen 53 Staaten, darunter die EU-Staaten, geschlossen und erlaubt es fossilen Konzernen, bei neuen Klimaschutz-Gesetzen, die ihre Profite bedrohen, Schadenersatz einzuklagen. So wurde etwa gegen den Kohleausstieg in den Niederlanden, ein Fracking-Verbot in Slowenien oder gegen das Verbot einer Ölplattform in Italien geklagt. Bestrebungen der EU, den Vertrag mit den Pariser Klimazielen in Einklang zu bringen, sind gescheitert.
Zeit zum Handeln
Immer mehr Staaten treten derzeit aus dem Vertrag aus. Die EU-Kommission strebt einen koordinierten EU-Ausstieg aus dem ECT an. Daher fordert Attac Österreich nun Wirtschaftsminister Martin Kocher dazu auf, sich Großbritannien anzuschließen.
